ABOUT US
Te Hāhi Aotearoa is a faith-based volunteer organisation that provides care and support to people impacted by family harm and/or hardship. Te Hāhi is made up of a collective of churches within local communities that partner with the Police and other local services in providing this support. Our worldview is that humanity is valued and loved and we are compelled to bring dignity and compassion to those in our communities who are struggling and overwhelmed.
HOW WE HELP
There are many people in our communities who are isolated and ‘fall through the gaps’. They don’t require specialist care but have found themselves being overwhelmed by their circumstances. To have a group available and willing to provide assistance can be the difference between ongoing suffering or overcoming the challenges facing them.
Collectively, as churches sharing resources and volunteers, we can make a significant impact.
SUPPORTING FAMILIES
Following a referral from Police and other partner organisations, vetted and trained volunteers visit families and and offer awhi (support) through kai, practical help around the home, or a listening ear.
SUPPORTING POLICE
Our volunteers also support and encourage Police staff in appreciation for their efforts and the burden they bear.
“Thank you for coming, you’ve given me hope.”
“I am incredibly appreciative of the compassion and dedication Te Hāhi continues to show.
It is through partnerships like this that we can ensure our most vulnerable are cared for and supported with dignity.”
OUR LANE
The support that Te Hāhi provides sits under the banner of Pastoral Care. This means we provide emotional, spiritual, and sometimes practical support to people within the community, to promote their well-being and overall health. It involves attending to people's needs and fostering a sense of belonging and care.
Te Hāhi is not a specialist service provider and we do not replace any specialist care needs. Instead, our support aims to complement and come alongside specialist services that already exist in the community.
